Little League International mourns the passing if Phyllis Yasui, a 40-year volunteer, who contributed her time as a nurse on the Little League Baseball World Series medical team. She was 84. Mrs. Yasui was a native of Yorkana, Pa., and was raised in Jersey Shore, Pa., where her father was a pastor with the Evangelical United Brethren Church, (later United Methodist).
A 1952 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and the Williamsport Hospital Nursing School, she met Robert Shu Yasui, and the couple married that same year. The Yasuis resided in Williamsport, Pa., and where active leaders and role models in their community. Dr. and Mrs. Yasui celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012.
Mrs. Yasui volunteered with the Junior League in Williamsport, Hope Enterprises, PTAs, the Children’s Development Center, and the Salvation Army. She was on the Board of Trustees of Lycoming College and an enthusiastic cheerleader for their sports teams.
Alongside her husband, who served as the Little League Baseball World Series physician for more than 50 years, she worked part-time in the family’s surgical practice.
Mrs. Yasui was predeceased by her husband (2012); and is survived by her five children: Robert, Lise, Robin, Timothy and Todd; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
